Warning: I used to eyeball my outrigger pads on soft ground versus actually checking with a level.
After a pad sank nearly two inches on a muddy site in Charlotte, I started using a simple torpedo level every single setup. Anyone else have a basic check that saved their bacon?

Nearly two inches in the mud? That's a scary amount of sink. My stomach would drop just seeing that. What kind of crane were you running on that setup?

Yeah, "stomach would drop" is right, @maryt62. I saw a rigger's truck sink like that once, just from the outriggers on wet grass. It was a smaller mobile crane, maybe a 25-tonner, but watching it tilt even a little felt like the whole world was moving.
