Shoutout to the old timer who showed me a trick for a tight blind pick in a parking garage

Had to set a 12-ton AC unit on a roof in downtown last week, with maybe 6 inches of clearance on either side of the jib. The spotter was basically yelling guesses. An operator from another crew saw me sweating and said to use the crane's shadow on the building wall as a guide. I lined up the shadow edge with the roof edge, and it gave me a perfect vertical reference I could actually see. Dropped it right in on the first try. Anyone else use shadow tricks when your spotter's view is blocked?

That shadow trick sounds like a total game changer for real.

Absolutely love that trick... used the shadow of the boom on the ground once to line up a pour when my guy was stuck behind a wall. It just makes sense when you can't see. Those little bits of field knowledge save your butt.
