Serious question, has anyone else had a rigger argue you should always swing the load over the cab for a faster cycle?

This guy on a site in Boise last fall kept insisting it was fine, saying 'the manual is just covering their butts, I've done it for 20 years', but I shut the job down until we could re-position the crane because I've seen what happens when a line parts under that kind of angle.

Twenty years of ignoring the manual is insane.

@joseph_torres I get the shock, but some places just have a bad culture that punishes you for opening the manual. I worked a job where they called it "wasting time." My fix was to quietly check the book during breaks, then just do it the right way. You can build real experience on top of the rules instead of replacing them.

Twenty years of ignoring the manual" is the part that gets me. How do you even make it that long without a major accident? That's not experience, it's just dumb luck.
