I ran my tag line by hand for 11 years till a guy in Beaumont pointed out I was plumb wrong
Spent an hour at a diner off I-10 arguing with a rigger who swore the anti two block switch on our old Link-Belt was wired to cut the boom hoist instead of the main, then he pulled up the manual on his phone and showed me the schematic, so now I'm redoing every pre-lift check on our 60 ton.
That line about running your tag line by hand for 11 years is the whole thing right there. We all got some habit we picked up from a guy who trained us, and it just becomes law in our heads until somebody stops us cold. What gets me is how often the wrong way works fine for years, which is exactly why nobody ever questions it. Then one day it matters, and you find out the hard way that doing it wrong a thousand times doesn't make it right.
