I finally stopped fighting the wind and started using it on a job in Tulsa
Everyone always says to set up with your back to the wind, but on a tight site near the river last month, I couldn't do it. I tried a different approach, angling the boom slightly into a crosswind and using a shorter tagline setup. It actually made the swing smoother and cut my cycle time by maybe 15 percent. Has anyone else tried breaking that rule when the ground layout forces it?

Wait, you're telling me you can actually break that rule and not get smacked in the face by your own tagline? That 15% sounds like witchcraft to me, but I guess the river wind gods approved your sacrifice.

Funny you mention that, because I actually tried the 15% thing on a windy day and my tagline started flopping around like a fish out of water. Did you rig yours with some kind of special knot or is it just pure luck? I keep wondering if there's a trick to it that nobody talks about.

Yeah the river wind gods thing checks out. Sometimes you just gotta make the sacrifice and hope for the best.
