Heard a guy at the supply yard in Portland say you should always use a tagline on a lattice boom, even for simple lifts

He was telling his crew that it's a basic safety step, no matter the load. But my old foreman always said a tagline just gets in the way on a straight pick, adding more things to manage. I'm running a 50-ton Link-Belt this week and I'm thinking about it. What's your take, do you always rig a tag or only when you really need the control?

My old crew in Spokane never used one for simple lifts with the 80 ton Grove. That extra line just gave the ground guys something else to trip over.

You know, it's like @theajackson said... that extra line is a trip hazard. But I see the same thing with safety gear on sites, people skip steps calling them a hassle until something spins. On a straight pick, I still rig a short tagline and tell my guy to just stand back unless we need it.

So what changed your mind about using taglines?
