Hanging a big chandelier at home reminded me of crane safety checks
I was putting up this heavy light fixture in my living room, and I automatically started checking the ceiling joists like I would with a load chart. Used a temporary hoist from the garage to lift it smoothly, just like on site. Made sure to have a spotter and clear the area, same as a lift plan. It made me realize how much our job habits seep into everyday stuff, which is pretty cool for avoiding accidents.

My wife still ribs me about the time I used a torque wrench on a toilet seat bolt. Guess after years on the job, you start seeing load limits and safety checks everywhere, right? I caught myself calculating the weight distribution for a bag of groceries the other day. Sometimes I wonder if we're just trained to overthink simple tasks. But hey, if it keeps us from dropping a chandelier on the dog, who's complaining?

After twenty years as a mechanic, I catch myself tightening bottle caps to spec all the time. It might seem silly, but that habit saved my fridge from a leak last month. So @jamie_white, I'd say our training just makes sure nothing falls apart when it counts.

Wait, you used a temporary hoist and a spotter at home? That's honestly shocking to me! I can't imagine setting up a whole lift plan for a light fixture. @the_joel tightening bottle caps is one thing, but this is like bringing the crane crew into your living room! It's pretty awesome how those safety habits stick with you.
