Had to choose between a quick lift and a full rig setup on a tight site in Boise
We were setting steel for a small office building downtown, and the site was cramped with only one good spot for the crane. I could either try a quick pick with a shorter boom and hope for the best, or take an extra hour to set up the full outriggers and longer boom for a safer, slower lift. I went with the full setup, even though it meant pushing lunch back. The extra reach let me place the beams perfectly without any close calls. Anyone else ever had to make that call on a tight urban site?

Oh man, totally been there! On a tight site near downtown Portland last year, I had the exact same call with a boom truck. I went with the quick lift because the PM was breathing down my neck, and let me tell you @hollyc92, I regretted it. The boom barely cleared the neighboring building, and we had to hand-bomb a few beams into place anyway. Never again.

Yeah, always worth taking the time to set up right.

Totally agree! I spent a whole afternoon leveling my workbench last year, and it made every project after that so much easier. Having a flat surface to measure from saved me from so many little mistakes.
