Got called out for my radio calls on a tight site in Pittsburgh
I was running a 150 tonner on a tight downtown site last fall, and the signal person pulled me aside after a lift. She said my radio calls were too long and full of extra words, like 'okay, moving it slow to the left now'. She told me to just say 'swinging left' and wait for her 'copy'. I started doing that the next day and it cut our setup time by almost 15 minutes over a full shift. The whole crew felt less rushed because comms were cleaner. Has anyone else had a simple comms tip that made a big difference on a congested site?

Like @john_flores said, clean comms change the vibe, and I see that same rule with my kids when I give them simple, clear instructions.

Clean comms really do change the whole vibe on site.

Oh man, for real. I used to volunteer coaching a youth soccer team, and it was chaos until I stopped yelling general stuff like "play defense." Started calling specific kids by name with one clear job, like "Sam, stay on number 10." The difference was insane, everyone just clicked and actually had fun.
