Finally nailed a blind pick off a barge this morning

Had a job over at the Port of Houston yesterday where I had to set some big steel beams into a trench I couldn't even see from the cab. Took me about 4 tries to get that first one lined up right but after that it was smooth sailing. Anyone else get a weird satisfaction from hitting those blind picks?

Idk man, maybe it's just me but that whole thing about hitting a blind pick feels like a pretty solid metaphor for life. You're out here trying to line stuff up and you can't even see what you're doing half the time. Like trying to get a key in the lock when it's dark out, or setting a picture frame level when you're just eyeballing it from across the room. You mess it up a few times, feel stupid, then bam you get it and everything clicks. Always reminds me that most jobs aren't about being perfect the first time, just about sticking with it till it feels right.

You see it different than me? Honestly I think those blind picks are the most satisfying part of the job, getting it right after a few tries is just part of the process.

Four tries on a blind pick from a barge? Man that's wild. I've had jobs where I'm digging blind in a tight spot and it still makes my stomach drop when the bucket disappears from sight. You must have nerves of steel sitting there guessing where those beams are going. Glad you got it sorted though, those jobs are the ones that stick with you.
