Can we talk about that time I tried a new luffing jib setup in Houston?
Last month I rigged up a brand new luffing jib on a Liebherr LTM 1130 for a high-rise job downtown. Thought I had it dialed in but the boom angle was off by 3 degrees and the load started swinging wild on the first pick. I learned to triple-check the chart before any lift, especially with that jib configuration. Anyone else run into weird issues switching jibs on a mobile crane?

That 3 degree miss on a 1300 ton crawler almost taking out a guy is terrifying. I mean, one swing and someone's life is in the balance just because of a chart miscalculation. It really makes you appreciate how every decimal point and jib weight matters on these big rigs.

That 3 degrees off on a LTM 1130 is a rough lesson. I've seen a 2 degree miss on a 100 tonner turn a simple wall panel pick into a pendulum. Check your anti-two block settings too, that jib weight changes everything on the chart.

Boom angle was off by 3 degrees" - that's wild. 3 degrees doesn't sound like much but on a high-rise lift with a luffing jib it's a whole different story. I had something similar happen once on a 1300 ton crawler. Forgot to account for the jib weight in my load chart calculations. That first swing almost took out a guy on the ground. You're right about triple checking the chart. I always run the numbers twice now, especially with any jib setup.
