Used to book clients back to back with no gap, now I leave 15 minutes and my shoulders thank me
For my first 3 years behind the chair I stacked color appointments every 30 minutes like it was a contest, and I ate lunch standing up maybe twice a week. After a client named Rosa at my old salon in Bakersfield pointed out I was rushing her foil lines, I started blocking 15 minutes between everyone. Turns out the extra time pays for itself, my 4pm client isn't sitting under a cape waiting while I finish the 3pm blowout. My rebook rate went up too, mostly because I actually talk to people instead of sprinting to the sink. Curious if anyone else buffers their books like this or if you just run late and deal with it.
15 min is the sweet spot honestly. I tried 20 at first and my books got too loose, people started showing up late because they knew they had wiggle room. The trick is using that gap for something, I wipe down my station and set up foils for the next one so I'm actually ahead instead of just standing there. My 3pm color clients noticed too, when you're not stressed they tip better.
