Tried purple shampoo on my own blonde hair and it turned blue

I figured I'd finally do my own toner at home using a popular purple shampoo from Ulta. Left it on for 5 minutes like the bottle said, but my hair pulled so much blue that I had to do a clarifying wash and it still looks weird 3 days later. Learned the hard way that porosity matters way more than I thought. Anyone else had a color go totally wrong from a simple at-home product?

The clarifying wash probably helped but that blue pigment can be stubborn if your hair is super porous. Try a vitamin C treatment or a cheap dandruff shampoo next time, it lifts color without being as harsh.

Did you try a baking soda paste too? I had the same thing happen with a purple shampoo from a drugstore brand and it took me like a week to get it out. The vitamin C method @emery_lopez mentioned is legit, but if your hair is really porous you might have to do it twice. I used crushed up vitamin C tablets mixed with a little water and it worked way better than the clarifying shampoo for pulling out that blue. Just be careful if your hair is already dry, because that stuff can be rough.
