TIL that the average person loses about 50 to 100 hairs a day, and that's normal

I found this out from a dermatologist's talk at the Midwest Beauty Show in Chicago. I used to panic when I saw hair in my brush, thinking it meant damage from a color service. Now I know it's usually just the natural cycle. Has anyone else had a client freak out over normal daily shedding?

Ever wonder if the panic over shedding actually causes more hair loss from stress? It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy for some clients. Explaining the science calmly can break that cycle.

My grandmother used to count the hairs in her brush every morning. She had a little notebook where she tracked the number, and if it went over fifty, her whole day was ruined. The stress from that ritual probably made things worse, honestly.

Totally! That stress feedback loop is so real. I've seen clients spiral from just noticing a few extra strands, then worrying nonstop, which legit messes with their body's rhythm. It's like their brain sends panic signals that can actually disrupt the normal growth cycle. Breaking that anxiety is half the battle, way before any treatment even comes into play. Giving them the hard numbers and a calm explanation can literally change their whole mindset.
