Switched from sectioning with clips to just using my fingers and it changed my whole speed

I used to spend like 5 minutes putting clips in for every haircut, making those Perfect sections. Then I watched a stylist in Chicago do a whole layered cut with just her fingers holding hair. Tried it myself 2 months ago and now I finish cuts 10 minutes faster. My sections arent as pretty but the results are the SAME. Anybody else drop a tool they thought was essential?

Man I had the SAME exact experience. I bought a whole set of those expensive sectioning clips and used them religiously for years. Then one day I was at a barber shop and the old guy there was just grabbing hair with his fingers and cutting like it was nothing. Tried it that night and honestly I felt like an idiot for all the time I wasted. Now I only grab a clip maybe once or twice for really tricky spots but otherwise it's all fingers. Sections look a little wild but the cut comes out just fine and my wrist doesnt ache from clipping and unclipping all day.

Oh man, that barber story is exactly what I needed to hear! I read somewhere that a lot of pro stylists actually prefer finger cutting for the tactile control, and it totally makes sense now. It's wild how we overcomplicate things when the old school methods are sometimes the best. @lopez.simon I think you're onto something, my wrist is already thanking me just thinking about ditching the clips for most cuts. Honestly, I'm gonna try it tonight because who needs all that extra gear when your fingers work just as good.
