Switched from foam rollers to hot rods for fine hair and never looked back

I spent 2 years using those velcro foam rollers on my clients with fine, straight hair and got maybe 4 hours of curl hold max. Finally grabbed a set of Conair hot rods after a stylist in Denver recommended them at a workshop. The difference is night and day - I get volume that actually lasts through dinner without teasing the crap out of the crown. Plus they don't snag on baby hairs like velcro does. Anyone else find that hot tools beat foam rollers for fine textures or am I alone on this?

Oh I gotta push back on this one. In my experience hot rods on fine hair can actually cause more heat damage over time since you're applying direct heat to thin strands that don't have much natural protection. I've seen plenty of fine-haired friends get better results with foam rollers set on damp hair and left to dry completely, that method gives way more staying power without the fried ends. Your mileage may vary of course but I think the foam route still has a solid place if you're patient enough to let them fully set.

Read somewhere that using a lower heat setting with hot rods helps a lot for fine hair.
