Stopped into an old salon in Pittsburgh and it still had the original vinyl chairs from the 70s
The place was basically a time capsule with those chairs and a perm station that looked untouched. Has anyone else walked into a spot that just made you miss the old-school vibe of the trade?

That comment about the perm solution smell and old coffee really hit home. It's like those places had a specific scent that just stays with you. I've been noticing this larger pattern lately, how so many things from that era had a certain honesty to them. The chrome, the vinyl, the big heavy dryers - none of it was pretending to be something else. Now everything is slick and minimal, but it all feels disposable compared to those old chairs that could last forty years. That's the real loss, I think. Not just the look, but the fact that things used to be built to last and nobody seemed to mind if they were a little squeaky or worn.

Did that place have that faint permanent wave solution smell mixed with old coffee? I walked into a shop in Youngstown once where the waiting chairs were chrome and red vinyl that squeaked every time someone sat down. The whole room felt frozen in time with big hair dryer domes that could probably still work if you plugged them in. It makes you realize how much character those old salons had compared to the sleek modern ones today.
