Purple shampoo left my client with green hair in Chicago

Last Tuesday I used a new violet toner on a Level 8 blonde client and it came out looking swampy green, not brassy. Turns out her porosity was jacked from a box dye she did 3 months ago, so the toner grabbed uneven and oxidized weird under the dryer. I fixed it with a bleach wash at 10 volume and a warm gloss, but now I always test strand on porous hair first. Anyone else have toner disasters from hidden previous damage, and how do you spot it upfront?
