PSA: I compared a $15 ceramic flat iron from the drugstore to my usual $150 professional one for a month, and the damage to my test mannequin's hair was shocking.

The cheap one's inconsistent heat and rough plates caused way more breakage and frizz after just 10 uses, so what's your go-to affordable but still safe hot tool brand?

I used to think cheap tools were fine, but that "shocking" damage you mentioned changed my mind.

Oh man, I had the same rude awakening. @perry.evan is right, it's a total gamble. My old cheap straightener left my ends feeling like straw.

Yeah, my split ends got so bad I looked like I'd been chewing on my hair.
