Heard a stylist at the supply store say long layers are dead and honestly I think that's just lazy cutting talk

I mean, maybe it's just me, but every time a new trend cycle drops people act like a whole technique is garbage, when really it's about how you place them for the specific head shape, has anyone else noticed this pattern every 2-3 years?

Take it way less serious than that. Trends come and go all the time, and long layers didn't suddenly stop working on real heads. I've seen plenty of cuts with long layers that look great, and plenty without that look flat. It's not like the technique itself is broken, it's just a matter of who's doing it and on what hair. Honestly, half these trends exist so stylists can sell you on a whole new look every couple years.

Right, because my hairdresser definitely needs a new reason to charge me 20 bucks extra for "texture work" every eighteen months. Long layers are like skinny jeans, they're gonna cycle back around as soon as everyone's bored of the blunt cuts that look like a helmet. Next thing you know we'll all be paying for "surface level deconstruction" which is just code for someone running a razor through your hair for five minutes. It's all just a game of musical chairs with scissors and I'm tired of paying full price for the music.

Okay, but is a trend really a trend if every single person with a different hair type and density is supposed to wear it the same way? Calling long layers dead feels like saying jeans are dead because bell bottoms aren't in style right now. The technique itself didn't suddenly forget how to work, people just decided they're bored of seeing it on Instagram models for three years. And honestly, if you have thick, heavy hair, taking a blunt cut all the way around is just asking for a triangle shaped helmet. So sure, tell me they're dead while I'm still getting compliments on mine from the last decade, I'll wait.
