Had a client yesterday who asked for a color correction after a box dye disaster.

She came into my chair in Austin and showed me a photo of her hair, which was a patchy orange mess from a $10 store kit. I spent four hours lifting and toning to get her back to a cool brown. What's your go-to product for fixing that kind of orange brassiness?

My last client in Dallas had the same orange banding issue. I used a blue-based level 7 demi-permanent color from a professional line. It neutralized the brass without over-darkening her hair.

Wait, aren't you worried a blue base might pull too cool on level 7 and leave a muddy green tint instead of just fixing the orange? I've seen that happen when the orange is really strong and the blue overpowers it. Wouldn't something with a violet undertone work better for neutralizing that warmth without risking a weird cast?

My own hair was a box dye mess before I got into this business.
