Guy at the supply house in Dallas asked why I still buy the big tub of relaxer, and it messed with my head
I was picking up my usual 4 lb tub of no lye relaxer last Tuesday when this older stylist behind me asked why I do not just charge more and use the small kit on one client at a time. He said he quit sharing product between clients after a lawsuit cost him $12k, and that the ounce he saves is not worth the risk of cross contamination. Now I am second guessing every scoop I take out of that tub, so how are you all handling relaxer and color for multiple clients without wasting half the product?
That "ounce he saves is not worth the risk" line sounds like something a lawyer told him, not something that actually happens in a salon. I've been sharing relaxer out of a big tub for years and nobody has ever gotten a scalp infection or whatever he's scared of. You're scooping with a clean spatula into a mixing bowl, not stirring it with your bare hands and passing it around the room. Cross contamination only happens when you double dip a dirty tool or stick your fingers back in the tub, and that's on the stylist, not the product size. A 4 lb tub costs way less per ounce and you're not throwing away half a jar every single client. Sounds like that guy got spooked by one bad experience and now he's paying triple for the small kits to feel safe. Keep your tub, just keep your scoops clean.
