Client insisted on black box dye, I talked her out of it and she hugged me
Had a woman come in last Tuesday, 47 years old, wanted to go from dishwater blonde to jet black because her daughter did it and looked great. I told her flat out that black would wash out her skin tone and make her look 10 years older, plus the grow out would be brutal every 3 weeks. She got mad at first, said I was just trying to upsell her on highlights. But I showed her a color wheel and did a strand test on a hidden section, then she saw the brassiness come out when we tried a dark brown instead. She ended up crying happy tears and hugged me at the counter, said her husband actually noticed the difference. Anyone else ever had a client thank you for refusing to do exactly what they asked? What do you say when they push back on your professional judgment?

Used to just give people what they asked for, but seeing the color wheel change her mind really showed me different.
