A client's blunt comment about my blowouts made me rethink everything
A regular told me last Tuesday that her hair felt 'fried and heavy' after I styled it, which honestly stung. She said I was using way too much heat protectant spray, like a full 15 sprays per section, and it was building up. I checked my bottle and realized I was going through one every two weeks just on my own clients. I cut it down to 3 light mists per section max and switched my dryer to a lower heat setting. The difference in shine and movement is crazy, and her hair feels so much lighter now. Has anyone else had a client call them out on a product habit they didn't even notice?

Man, that hits home. I used to drown my own hair in dry shampoo without realizing it until a friend asked if I'd colored it gray. Sometimes you just get stuck in a routine and stop seeing it.

Read something about how too much dry shampoo can actually clog up your scalp and cause weird buildup over time... makes sense now. Your friend's comment about the gray color is exactly what happened to me, just a dusty mess looking back in pictures. Funny how we don't notice the small stuff until someone points it out.

Oh wow, @umathompson, I always thought dry shampoo was harmless but your story totally changed my mind.
