The GC's PM told me my daily logs were useless, and he was right
Ran my own small framing crew for 4 years and kept paper daily logs that I thought were solid. Then a PM named Daryl on a $2.1M build in Tacoma pulled me aside and asked point blank who the logs were actually for. I couldn't answer him, because deep down I knew they were for me, not the office. Switched to snapping photos in a phone app that timestamps and pins to a drawing, and my change order disputes went from losing half to winning almost all of them. What's the one piece of paperwork you were doing for yourself and calling it documentation?
Daryl basically called out the same trap I was stuck in for years with my own daily reports. Mine were just a diary of what I did all day, which felt productive but never helped when a client pushed back on a change. Once I started logging with dates and photos tied to specific areas, the fights over extra work basically stopped going against me.
