Rant: my punch list used to be 60 items, then I tried making the subs log their own fixes
So I manage 14 buildings around Dayton and punch lists were killing me. Every turnover, I would walk a unit, snap 60 photos, type them all up, and email the same three subs, and half the stuff would sit for two weeks. Three months ago I got tired of it and just gave the subs view access to the punch list in our software, with a rule that they had to mark items done and add their own photo before I even look at it. Sounds great, right? Here is the catch. Two of the subs love it and knock stuff out fast because they see the whole list instead of just their part. The third guy says it is double work and keeps texting me photos instead, so now I am merging his texts into the system by hand. My boss thinks I should just force everyone onto the app, but the guy who hates it is the only one who shows up same day. So which is it, do you make the subs use your tool no matter what, or do you eat the extra admin to keep the fast guy happy? I am honestly split on this and would like to hear what has worked for other people.
