Watched a guy finish a 40x60 slab in flip flops and he nailed it

Last Wednesday on a job in Boise this older finisher named Ray showed up in flip flops and gym shorts while the rest of us had full gear on. The pour was a 40x60 warehouse floor and he ran the power trowel better than anyone I know, edges clean and no burn marks anywhere. The GC just shook his head and said nothing. Has anyone else run into a guy who breaks every rule and still turns out perfect work?
