Was dead set on a power trowel for my 900 sq ft shop slab, then my uncle talked me into a hand float
I had my mind made up that I needed a walk behind trowel for my 24x36 shop pour last month. My uncle has been finishing for 22 years and he said for a slab that size a magnesium float and a good steel trowel would do the job just fine. I fought him on it for a week, figured he was just old school and stuck in his ways. Well, he was right. I floated and troweled the whole thing by hand with a knee board in about 3 hours and got a finish cleaner than anything I ever pulled with a rented trowel. Saved $180 on the rental too. Now I'm wondering what else I've been overcomplicating, what's the one tool you finally gave up on after years of swearing by it?
