That $60 power trowel attachment changed my mind on hand finishing

I used to swear by hand finishing everything because I thought machines left too many swirl marks. Then I borrowed a buddy's power trowel attachment for a 400 square foot garage floor last month. It cost me about $60 for the attachment and it cut my finishing time in half. The surface actually came out smoother than my hand work and I haven't gone back since. Has anyone else been surprised by a tool they were skeptical about?

Buddy of mine said the same thing after using one on a patio, now he won't touch a trowel.

Did you try a different kind of trowel after that...? What worked for me was switching to a diamond-shaped one with a rounded tip. I had the same problem, kept gouging the mud and getting frustrated. Found a magnesium trowel that's super lightweight, made a world of difference for me. Feels like it glides way smoother and doesn't dig in no matter how hard I press. Maybe your buddy just needed the right tool for the job...

Has anyone actually checked if the mud mix itself was part of the problem? I've seen folks blame the trowel when really their mud was too wet or had too much water in it. That stuff gets grabby and weird if the consistency is off. Also, maybe he was pressing way too hard on the corners instead of letting the trowel do the work. A good trowel helps but it can't fix bad technique or bad mud. Might be worth mixing up a fresh batch and seeing if that changes anything before buying new gear.
