That 10-degree pour in Fargo last Tuesday wrecked a slab I thought was fine

Went back to the site 6 hours later and saw shallow cracking all across the surface, it never had that dull sheen after the final pass, so if you're finishing below 40 degrees watch the cream before you trust the clock, has anyone else had a late-season pour sneak up on them like this?

Learned that lesson the hard way myself a few years back. I used to think the clock was the only thing that mattered once you got the mix down, but that cold air does something to the surface cream that the thermometer on the truck never catches. Now I watch the sheen and the way it pulls under the float way closer than I ever did before. That dull look you mentioned is the giveaway, and once you see it, you’re basically already fighting a losing battle. I still check the forecast, but trust the finish, not the temperature reading.
