Tackled a big slab with rice husk ash in the mix today

Local supplier hooked us up with the stuff. Subbed it for some cement. Pour went smooth, finish held up great. Feels solid to cut down on clinker use.

Worry about the long term strength with that swap though. Seen a couple jobs where alternative mixes cured weird and got surface cracks after a few seasons. Maybe it's just me but I'd want way more testing data before putting it in a big slab. Feels like cutting clinker is good in theory but the practical trade offs make me nervous.

My buddy's garage slab from 2018 used some fly ash mix to cut costs. After two winters, it spiderwebbed with cracks like a dry lake bed. The contractor swore it was standard practice, but now he's dealing with water seeping in every spring. He tried sealing it twice, but the cracks just come back. Makes you wonder if saving a few bucks up front is worth the headache later.

Any worry about cracking like @the_kai's garage?
