Remember when we all made fun of those laser screeds?

I thought they were just for big jobs and a waste of money. Then we got a contract for a 10,000 sq ft warehouse floor in Kansas City and rented one for a week. The crew finished the pour and initial screed in half the time, and the floor was dead flat. Now I look at my old straightedges differently. Anyone still using manual screeds for slabs that size, or has everyone switched?

Wait, you rented one for just a week? I figured you had to buy the thing to make it worth it. That changes the whole math on it for a lot of smaller crews. Half the time on a pour that big is no joke. My old boss would still be out there with a 16-footer and a couple of laborers, sweating and cussing.

What's the weekly rental rate on something like that?

What model did you rent and what did it actually cost you per week?
