Remember when a bull float was just a piece of wood?
Three years ago on a big pour in Tacoma, my crew chief pulled out this old, worn wooden float he'd had since the 90s. Last week, a new guy showed up with a magnesium one that cost him $180, and he didn't even know how to break it in right. When did the basic tools get so fancy and expensive?

My dad's wooden float from '88 is still in his truck.

Ever see someone try to use a brand new steel shovel without cleaning the oil off first? Watched a guy on a site last year fight with one for an hour, slipping all over the place, before the foreman told him to just rub it in some dirt.

Totally thought that oil was for rust protection! Now I just scuff new tools in gravel first thing.
