Old timer told me to wet the ground before pouring and I thought he was crazy

Guy named Rick who's been doing concrete since the 80s told me to spray down the subgrade before my last residential slab in Phoenix. I figured it was a waste of time since it was 105 out. But he insisted so I did it and the mud held moisture way longer than any of my other pours. Has anyone else had better results with wetting the dirt first or is this just a desert thing?

Did you notice any difference in how it finished or cured compared to your dry pours? I'm curious if the moisture helped with cracking or anything like that. Maybe it's just a desert thing but it makes sense to keep the ground from sucking the water out too fast.

Wet the ground then 3 hours later my slab had pinholes everywhere from trapped moisture trying to escape.

Do it EVERY time now, @thompson.nathan. Stops the ground stealing all your water.
