I keep seeing guys skip the broom finish on sidewalks and it's a problem
Last week in Tacoma, I watched a crew pour a new walkway and just trowel it smooth. No broom at all. That surface is going to be slick as ice with the first rain. I've seen three slips on a job like that before. Why do people think a slick finish is okay for a public walk? Has anyone else had to go back and fix this for another crew?

Just trowel it smooth? That's asking for a lawsuit right there.

Oh, that drives me nuts. It's so unsafe, especially around here with all our wet weather. I've seen the same thing happen.

On the "lawsuit" thing - I used to think people were just being dramatic about concrete finishes. I figured a smooth walk looked cleaner and more professional. Then I helped a friend patch a section of his driveway last fall, troweled it flat, and watched my neighbor's kid almost eat it on wet leaves a week later. That changed my mind real quick. There's a reason they invented the broom finish, and it's not just for looks.
