I finally listened to the old guy about my bull float technique

He watched me on a garage slab in Tacoma and said 'you're fighting the concrete, not floating it.' I realized I was pushing down way too hard, trying to force it flat instead of letting the tool do the work. Anyone else have a simple tip that fixed a bad habit?

What if you're just working with bad concrete though? Sometimes you gotta push harder if the mix is off.

That's a fair point about a bad mix. But how do you define "bad concrete" on a real job site? Is it just low slump, or are we talking about aggregate that's totally wrong?
