Finally got the hang of timing my finish on a 90-degree day... used to rush it and ruin the surface every time.

Read an old article from a concrete guy in Arizona. He said on extreme heat days, the timing isn't just about the skin, it's about the moisture leaving the slab. You have to watch for that gray sheen to disappear completely before you even think about stepping back on it.

That gray sheen thing is interesting, but honestly I've had better luck going by feel. @henderson.wesley is right about the skin, but sometimes you can start the final pass a touch earlier than you'd think.
