Vent: I kept the cost low for a RAM upgrade and my manager objected
Our shop policy is to add a high fee for basic hardware swaps. I installed new memory for a student and only asked for the part price. My manager said this cuts into our profit margin too much. I disagree, since treating people right leads to repeat visits.

Run a diagnostic check for free next time they come in. That builds the relationship. Then bundle the RAM install with a paid service like a deep clean or OS tune-up. Your manager gets the margin, the student still gets a deal.

Free diagnostic? Is that even a thing anymore?

That free diagnostic check is such a classic move. It feels like a nice gesture until you see the list of "suggested" services that follows. Bundling it all together just hides the upsell in plain sight.
