Shoutout to that one day last week where every single drive I cloned worked on the first try with zero errors

I usually spend half my week fixing cloned drives that fail to boot or have bad sectors, but last Tuesday every single one from a batch of 12 came up perfect and I don't know if it was luck or something I did different, so what's your record for consecutive clean clones before a failure hits?

Man that's a great feeling when everything just works. I had a similar lucky streak last fall with a batch of 10 WD Blues from 2019, all cloned perfect in one afternoon after I started wiping the source drives first with a quick format. No idea if that helped or if I just got lucky with the drive lot.

Read a post over on r/DataHoarder where a guy said he got 37 consecutive good clones at a corporate recycling center before a single failure. His trick? He only used drives manufactured in the same month and kept them inside a temperature controlled room. For me, 12 is still the record. Had a batch of 8 Seagates from 2016 that all failed at random sectors within a month of each other. Think there's a lot of luck involved with older drives.
