PSA: I just tried a new thermal paste application pattern on a client's overheating gaming rig and the results were wild.

Actually, the pattern itself doesn't matter much if the mounting pressure is uneven. The real trick is making sure the cooler is screwed down tight and level. A tiny pea-sized dot in the center is all you need for modern CPUs.

Tried the pea method on my Ryzen 5 and temps were awful. Switched to a thin X pattern, just four little lines from the center out, and it dropped ten degrees. The spread was way more even once the cooler clamped down.
