Oh man, the RAID controller thing. I once wiped a drive I was SURE was the right one and it turned out to be the only copy of my sister's wedding photos. So yeah, you're not alone in the "learned it the hard way" club.
40 patient files though, oof. That's gonna be a fun phone call.
