I was dead wrong about thermal paste being overrated
For years I figured thermal paste was just snake oil sold to enthusiasts. I used the stock stuff that came pre-applied on CPUs and never had issues. Last month I built a new rig for a client in Denver and decided to try a $10 tube of Arctic Silver just to see. His idle temps dropped 8 degrees and his load temps went down 12 degrees under a stress test. I still think the premium $30 pastes are a waste, but I definitely changed my mind on the basic stuff. Anyone else have a cheap upgrade they ignored for too long?

Wait isn't it funny how we all have that one thing we refuse to believe works until we finally try it and it actually does? Reminds me of how I used to think using a windshield sun shade in summer was a waste of time until I borrowed my neighbor's one day.

Read somewhere that our brains treat unfamiliar stuff as risky until we have proof otherwise. Makes sense why we fight simple fixes until we see them work.

Isn't it wild how much we resist stuff that's actually pretty obvious? It's like we have this built in thing where we gotta be proven wrong before we accept something works.
