I finally figured out why that server kept crashing at 3pm every Tuesday

Been banging my head against this one for weeks. A client's file server would choke and reboot like clockwork every Tuesday at 3:05pm. Checked logs, swapped drives, ran memtest, the whole nine yards. Turns out the cleaning crew was plugging their floor buffer into the same circuit as the server rack. Had a chat with the building manager and got them to label the outlet. Simple fix but man did I feel dumb for not checking the physical setup sooner. Anyone else ever had a mystery crash solved by something that had nothing to do with software?

Honestly I push back on this a little. Yeah the power issue is a real thing but if you had proper UPS monitoring and logging you would have seen the voltage drop way before troubleshooting for weeks. A good UPS with network management gives you a timeline of exactly when and why power events happened. Not saying it's a bad find, just that the tools should have caught this day one.
