Heard a customer say 'it's probably just software' when their PC wouldn't POST

I was at a coffee shop near my shop in Portland last Tuesday and overheard a guy tell his friend, 'It's probably just software, man, I can fix it myself.' But he was describing a machine that beeped 5 times and showed nothing on screen. I wanted to say something but I kept my mouth shut. How do people get that idea in their head that hardware issues are always just a driver problem?

I actually see where that mindset comes from though, @the_cameron - most people's computer problems really are software related, so it's kind of a shortcut their brain takes. Hardware failures are scary and expensive, so it's easier to convince yourself it's just a driver than face the reality of a dead motherboard or graphics card. The beeping codes just sound like tech noise to someone who hasn't been burned by a bad PSU yet.

Probably just software" said the guy whose PC is beeping like a smoke alarm lmao. I swear people think if it's not smoking it's automatically a driver update.
