Had a client ask why I don't just 'run a scan' on their machine every time
They genuinely thought I could fix a failing hard drive with a quick software check, like it was a magic wand. Made me realize so many people don't know the difference between software and hardware issues. Anyone else run into this gap in understanding?

Oh, that's a good one. It really shows how much we assume people know about how computers actually work. I've had folks bring in a laptop that won't turn on and insist it just needs a "virus scan" to get going again, like software can fix a dead power supply or a cracked motherboard. Part of the problem is that a lot of the computer help you see online or in ads is just about running programs or clicking buttons, so people think that's all there is to it. It would be nice if basic computer repair was taught in schools, just so folks had a better idea of what can and can't be fixed with a few clicks.
