Took me 2 hours to find a simple valve leak on a pier job

Last month on a pier inspection in Galveston I had a flange that wouldn't hold pressure no matter what I did. Turned out to be a hairline crack in the valve body itself that I missed because the silt was covering it. How long do you guys usually spend tracking down these small leaks before you start pulling everything apart?

Man that's rough, how did you finally spot the crack after all that? I've been in the same boat way too many times... spent half a day on a cooling line leak once that ended up being a pinhole right where a bracket was welded on. It's crazy how the smallest little things can eat up hours, especially when the silt or grime is hiding them. I feel your pain on that, sometimes you just gotta step back and look at it from a different angle before you start tearing stuff apart.
