The drysuit air dump trick that finally clicked for me

For like 3 years I was fighting my drysuit on every dive, always felt like I was either floating up or getting squeezed. A buddy at a job in Long Beach last month showed me his method... instead of reaching over his shoulder for the dump valve he just rolls his left shoulder down real quick. Tried it on my next dive and suddenly I could control my buoyancy without flailing around. Anyone else have a simple trick like this that took you way too long to figure out?

I always thought reaching over the shoulder was the only proper way to do it, but rolling the shoulder down makes way more sense now that I've tried it.

Yeah the "roll the shoulder down" part is what really clicked for me too. I used to just reach up and over like a total noob, no idea there was a better way. My form was so bad before I figured this out, I was just using all arm and no back engagement. Now I can actually feel the muscle working in the right spot, not just my rotator cuff screaming at me.
