The diving fatality numbers I read this week really shook me
I was looking through the latest CDC stats on commercial diving deaths and saw that between 2005 and 2015, there were 28 deaths in the Gulf of Mexico alone. That sounds small but when you figure how few divers are actually working down there, the rate is way higher than construction or fishing. Most of them were from guys going too fast on ascent or using bad gas mixes. Has anyone else looked at those old accident reports and found something that made you change how you dive?

I read about a guy who died from a bad trimix blend and it made me double check every tank now.

Read an old accident report about a guy who surfaced too fast after a deep wreck dive and got bent so bad he bled from his ears. That image stuck with me. Now I always use a computer AND a backup timer, and I never trust a single gauge. Also heard a story about a diver who died because his helium tank had too much oxygen in it from a bad fill. I check every single mix with my own analyzer now, even if the shop says it's good.
