Tender vs. bell diver argument still rages, who's actually right?

Had a chat with an old saturation guy out of Houma last week and he swore bell divers are the only real commercial divers. Said tenders are just deckhands with a helmet, which got me thinking after 6 years running both roles on inland jobs. I've done plenty of both and honestly, a good tender can save your ass more than any bell setup when current picks up. But he pointed out that bell divers handle the complex rigging and gas management that tenders never touch. So which side do you land on in this old fight, and has anyone here made the jump from tender to bell and found it easy or brutal?
