Spent 6 hours fighting a flooded lift bag on a barge job in Galveston

The dump valve seized from sand grit and I kept pulling the ripcord like an idiot before realizing I could just unscrew the cap in 30 seconds, so now I carry a spare valve fitting in my drysuit pocket even though it adds bulk, has anyone else had a valve fail at the worst possible moment?
